Hawaii March 2023 w Lauren

3/23 

Slc to Honolulu. Arrived at 2:30 Hawaii time; our 6:30. We went bed at 8:30; SLC time of 12:30. I got up at 4:30.

From airport, went west to 

We had joked on the plane about having Malasadas for dinner.

Malasadas at Leonards truck. 

Spring rolls and garlic shrimp from Thong Thai truck. 

Banana Republic outlet looked promising but did not produce any great deals that fir right.

Drove through Koolina shopping across from Aulani.

Walked around Aulani. Went to Farmers Market that was going on there. Lauren found handmade Harry Potter themed backpack for Avalon for her birthday. I bought local honey w a molasses taste for Lauren s sore throat. And a bowl cozy for Roberta.

Drove back west and north towards Laie. 

Downloaded the Gypsy travel app we had used in October 2019 when I came w Lauren,  her family and Roberta. 

Drove by Buddist Temple, "Chinaman s hat", beautiful waves even far off the beach shores. 

I asked Lauren about the location of something and she pointed to the right and said "because there is water that way...and that way and that way" pointing forward and behind us.

Got to Marriot Courtyard at Laie. So tired, but thrilled to be in Hawaii again.

Before getting on the plane, I thought my raise had not been reflected in my payslip deposit

3/24 Breakfast at food trucks at PCC at Tita s Grill. Omelet w Portuguese sausage. Hot coco w rice and coconut and chocolate. 

Dropped off Lauren to guest teach a sports science class.

I relaxed in our room. Lauren walked back when done teaching.

Relaxed a bit. BYU teacher, Katie, invited us to lunch. Met Kenny Kalama, BYU recruiter and event coordinator, while we waited for her to pick us up.

Drove north to Kuhuku food trucks. (Area north of Giovanni s and 7 Brothers shrimp and large dress tent). Ate at Papi s Tacos. Yum. 

Need to return to see Hilton studio. Katie has beautiful blouse from there. 

Sat in Dr Kate s class. Lauren answered questions in Sports Coach certification class.

Hike to Pill box at Turtle Bay.

Dinner. Shrimp and fish tacos at Papi s Tacos

Hot tub.

3/25 leftovers for breakfast. 

Distribution center on temple grounds.

 Drive to Honolulu. 

2 hours walking at Aloha Bowl Market. Dress for Avalon, t shirts for Bone boys, dress for Carmen, flavored macadamia nuts, tropical taffy for Adrienne,  CarolAnne, spicy nuts for boys and men.

Ala Moana Thai food. Spicy chicken and spicy shrimp. 20 SHRIMP on running total. Coconut tapioca.

Walked to Macy's. Liliha Bakery in Macy's.  Chocolate topped cream puff and passionfruit malasada.

 Last Act at Macy's. 

Sephora for Lauren's make up/sunscreen spray. Got exfoliant and spray tan bottle too.

Tried to find Jam World outlet store, but no longer opened regularly. 

Drove to Nanamu Pali Lookout.

Tamura s grocery store for mouth wash. Lauren has had sore throat since we got here.

Stopped at dress shop along road.

Huli chicken and garlic shrimp at Mike s Huli Chicken at Kahuku food trucks. At 27 SHRIMP.

7 pm Hotel room to watch tv....nothing good

3/26

Sunday meetings at Laie 2nd ward. New bishopric. Sat w Workman s.  Katie, their daughter, is former student of Lauren's.  

Bought fresh fruit at Kulima Fruit stand. Fried banana (turon) and fried banana mochi.

Sat by pool under umbrella and worked on computer.

Lunch at Kahuku Farms. Farm fresh food... roasted veggie panini and pizza on bruschetta w Mac nut pesto. Grilled banana bread w vanilla caramel and haupia sauce and vanilla ice cream. 

Walked farm grounds....cacao, açaí, starfruit, soursop(guanabana) dragonfruit, vanilla, curry...

Walked paved loop to temple, around back of temple grounds(cemetary? Saw hala tree...pineapple looking fruit on tree)and back to hotel.

Ate fruit, banana bread,garlic Mac nuts, and pretzels for dinner.

7pm Began watching "Jane the Virgin" on Netflix

Sleep at 9. I took alka seltzer at 12:30. Garlic Mac nuts were strong.

3/27 up at 5:30

Lauren had two telehealth clients at 8 and 9 by pool.

I ate breakfast from hotel by pool.

Drive to Hailewa.

Food trucks at Haliewa. Giovanni s Scampi and dessert crepe

Walked up Main st

Tabora- daughters were there

Haliewa shave ice, lilikoi sauce,adzuki beans

Tibetan handicraft store

Keiki store- Avalon swim suit

Drive south.

Teds, mahi mahi, garlic shrimp, pie

Waimea Valley. 2 miles in and back. Rain water swimming hole under falls. Botanical gardens with flora from all over the world.

Sealing session at Laie Temple w Lauren. Nikki (Zach s mom) and Erin, her boss at BYU.

Lauren q&a in an MFT class for Kate. Nikki and I attended 

Rainfall begins.

Pick up omelet,  Mac pancakes and Hawaiian bread French toast. Crunchy powdered sugar on French toast was not great.

Ate in hotel room. 

Heavy rain.

Walked to PCC about 2. 

Canoe from entrance to other end. Heavy rain.

Walked around island areas.

Talked to Kap in Samoa; he has been there for 36 1/2 years, so he was there the first visit to Hawaii .

Went to quilt shop.

Went to buffet

Attended q&a for MFT program to psych club at BYU Hawaii

Grad Fair at BYU Hawaii.  9:30-1. Lunch at Da Bald Guy. shrimp at 62. With Nikki Hazlette. Take Nikki home. Ono yo for dessert. Return to room to change into swimsuits. Pick up Nikki and daughter, Holly. Go to beach. Stand in water. Shower and change at hotel. Go to Workman s for dinner.
